Be Kind – Calligraphy Artwork in Kufic Script

This piece explores the potential of Kufic calligraphy beyond its traditional religious context. Combining elements of both square and knotted Kufic, the phrase "كن لطيفًا" (Be Kind) is rendered inside a mihrab-shaped frame on papyrus, using ink and touches of gold leaf. Inspired by historic inscriptions and architectural motifs, the design balances geometric precision with decorative fluidity.

Originally drawn to other calligraphic styles, I came to appreciate Kufic for its deep cultural roots and hidden elegance. This artwork reflects that personal shift, reimagining Kufic as a contemporary, emotionally resonant form. By choosing a simple, human-centered phrase, the work encourages kindness in a time of global unrest, while challenging the perception that Kufic is only suited for sacred or formal use.
